There are no specific skill requirements needed to be a construction site volunteer, except a willingness to work and learn. Habitat has a construction manager on the site, along with a dozen or more experienced staff volunteers who will provide on the job training and guidance.

HFHNC will provide lunch, however you may want to bring your own beverages coffee, water, soda, etc... To volunteer on the construction site you must first complete our online application. As the need arises for construction volunteers you will be contacted by our volunteer coordinator. At that time, you will be given details as to the work you'll be doing and directions to the site. Please come dressed appropriately for working on a construction site, i.e. work gloves, work boots (Sneakers are ok, but please, no dress shoes, crocs, sandals, etc), and comfortable work clothing. Expect to get dirty. HFHNC will provide lunch, however you may want to bring your own beverages coffee, water, soda, etc...

To help ensure a safe work environment, construction volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Each volunteer must sign a Release of Liability form agreeing to take personal responsibility for any accidents or injuries on the job. Many people have a personal health insurance plan that covers them while engaged in volunteer work. However, you should verify your coverage prior to coming to the work site.

Teens 16 - 17 may work on a construction site, however, due to labor safety regulations they are not permitted to work with power tools and may be limited to certain tasks. They must be accompanied by a responsible adult or come as part of an organized group (school, scouts, etc). Parents of teens 16 - 17 must sign the release form for their child and submit the information & skills form.
