Habitat
for Humanity in Nassau County (HFHNC), established in 1990,
is a local non-profit (501(c)3) affiliate of Habitat for Humanity
International. We are an ecumenical organization that seeks
to address affordable housing needs by providing simple
affordable homes for deserving
families in Nassau County. Persons of all beliefs are encouraged
to join our efforts. We are committed to the development of
our communities and the empowerment of families through our
housing ministry. We rely on individual, corporations and foundations
for financial support and accept government assistance.
In addition
to building houses, HFHNC seeks to make affordable housing "a
matter of conscience". With that in mind, our organization
sends speakers to local schools and universities, corporations
and businesses. We seek to spread the word about Habitat and
energize individuals and groups to take on the challenge of
addressing housing issues in Nassau County. The HFHNC construction
site provides a safe harbor where persons of diverse backgrounds
reach across barriers of color, class, religion or language
to build something positive together.
